When developing PMS, managers need to choose between various
options or features of design available to them:
Management by
Objectives
Management by Objectives is a process through which an
organisation clearly states its aims and objectives so that employees of the
company fully understand what they need to do. The fundamental nature of
management by objective is to have goal setting, fixed certain targets within
the organisation and have decision making amongst all the staff. When employees
are part of some decision making, somehow they would be willing to contribute
towards that aim and objective in order to maintain efficiency within their
company.
360 degree feedback
This is a type of feedback that one can obtain from all
employees. It could be provided by managers, peers and subordinates. The 360
feedback could also be provided by stakeholders for example customers.
The results obtained from those feedbacks are meticulously
used to plan trainings and development for staff.
Critical Incident
The critical incident is a technique that’s commonly used in
big organisations to identify certain key issues that could prove to be a
threat in an organisation. This technique could be used in the form of
interview techniques whereby employees or staff in a company could come forward
and talk about certain key issues
Behaviourally
Anchored Rating Scales (BARS)
The word itself says that’s it’s a technique used to rate
the performances. It is a methos used to evaluate performance based on certain
criteria set thus determining whether performance is effective or ineffective.
The rating would be in form of "good", "moderate" and "poor performance"
